Pizarra is a charming, small village located along the local railway line between Málaga and Alora. The village has many restaurants and bars where you can enjoy local food, drinks and a typical Andalusian night out. The village also has an interesting Municipal Museum, which was created to exhibit the collection of the famous American painter Gino Hollander, who lived in the area for many years. 20 km North of Pizarra, you find El Chorro and the famous ‘El Caminito del Rey'. This is a walkway pinned along the steep walls of a narrow cliff. It used to be the most dangerous walkway of the world, but after years of extensive repairs and renovations it is now one of the most popular tourist attractions of the area. Pizarra is only a 30 minutes (35 km.) drive from Málaga, the airport and the beaches of the Costa del Sol and offers the best of both worlds.
Buying property in Spain
Spain welcomes foreign buyers with no nationality restrictions. The buyer needs an NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) before completion, and most buyers open a Spanish bank account to handle the deposit and ongoing charges. An independent lawyer (abogado) is strongly recommended — the notario only checks the deed, not the wider title.
Spain ended its Golden Visa property route in April 2025.
Non-resident mortgages are widely available, typically 60–70% LTV.
Non-resident sellers face a 3% withholding from the sale price (retención), claimable against capital gains tax.
Always check community-of-owners (comunidad) debts and outstanding IBI before completion — they transfer with the property.
General guidance only — confirm specifics with a qualified local lawyer or tax adviser. Reference
